|The First Church in Albany|
The church is called to make disciples of Jesus Christ, teaching people to observe all that Jesus commanded (Matthew 28: 19). Childhood and adolescence are critical stages for forming identity, shaping values and making commitments. It is our responsibility to provide children and youth with opportunities to engage in meaningful faith practices, to affirm their gifts, and to provide them with mentors and models for the Christian life so that they will be formed in faith and "grow up in every way into Christ" (Ephesians 4: 14).
From the goal statements
Children and Youth
"Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world.
They are yellow black and white
They are precious in His sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world."
Our aim is to nurture families, developing faith, trust and sense of safety, sharing stories, and applying scripture to everyday life at every appropriate age.
Ages 0-4 gather during Sunday service for nursery care in Crib and Crawl. They play with toys, listen to music, and do craft activities and nature exploration while learning stories from the Bible.
Children and Worship
During the worship service, children ages 4 through 7 are invited to come upstairs to the Children's Worship Center. The children will be greeted and invited to come and experience the wonder and mystery of God through unique storytelling, singing, prayer, and creative expression. For more information please contact Pastor Susan Cox. Children and Worship meets September - June.
Church School classes are held for children and youth immediately following worship from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., September - June.
Parents are welcome to participate in classroom activities.
Youth in grades 7 - 12 meet from September - June for fellowship and service activities. Our youth group activities identify and enhance an awareness of justice and social responsibility. They also provide an opportunity to build Christian relationships across community boundaries by participating in local and national mission projects.
Many youth from the church spend a week at summer camp in the Adirondacks.
Journeys of Faith
Journeys of Faith is held every two years to prepare students in grades 9 and above for confession of faith. The classes are coordinated by the Pastors.
